Kitchen Cabinet Painting

A new colour for the kitchen you already have, applied over careful preparation so the finish lasts in daily use.

Is painting right for your kitchen?

Kitchen cabinet painting works when the cabinets are solid and the layout suits you, but the colour or finish has dated. It keeps the carcasses, worktop and appliances in place, so the disruption is far smaller than a new kitchen.

It is not the answer for every kitchen. Doors that are swollen from water, peeling foil-wrapped fronts and broken carcasses do not take paint well. In those cases, replacement kitchen doors or a kitchen makeover is the better choice, and we will say so at the visit.

What we can refinish

Kitchen cabinet painting can be as simple as one colour on the doors, or a fuller update.

Doors and drawer fronts

The main part of the job. Doors and drawer fronts are removed, prepared and painted, then refitted and aligned.

Carcass faces and panels

Visible end panels, plinths and cornices are painted to match, so the new colour reads as one kitchen.

Handles and hinges

New handles change the style as much as the colour, and soft-close hinges can be fitted at the same time.

Choosing the finish

Matt, satin or gloss

Matt hides small marks but shows grease if not cleaned regularly. Satin is the most forgiving. Gloss needs a very smooth door to look right.

Two-tone kitchens

Darker base cabinets with lighter wall cabinets, or a contrasting island, keep the room bright while adding depth.

Colour matching

We can match a paint sample, a tile or a fabric. Daylight photographs of the kitchen help us judge it.

What we leave alone

Worktops, sinks, taps and appliances stay in place. Plumbing and electrical work are not part of a painting job.

Preparation and paint system

Most of the quality in kitchen cabinet painting comes from the preparation underneath the colour.

  • Cleaning and degreasing. Kitchen doors carry cooking grease that stops paint bonding, so every surface is cleaned first.
  • Sanding and repairs. Doors are sanded to give a key, and chips and dents are filled.
  • Primer. A primer suited to the door material, whether timber, MDF or a previously painted surface.
  • Top coats. Durable top coats in your chosen colour and sheen, sprayed or applied by hand depending on the door.
  • Hardware. Optional new handles, knobs and soft-close hinges.

Our furniture repainting page explains the same preparation process for freestanding furniture.

How the job runs

  1. Send photographs. Show the whole kitchen and a close-up of a door, so we can see the material and its condition.
  2. Inspection. We check every door for swelling, peeling and damage, and confirm the job is suitable for painting. The visit is free within Dubai.
  3. Colour and fixed price. You choose the colour and sheen, and receive a written, fixed price.
  4. Preparation and painting. Doors are removed, prepared and painted. We protect the worktops, floors and appliances when working on site.
  5. Refit. Doors go back on, hinges are adjusted and any new handles are fitted.

What affects the price

We price the job after seeing the doors. The main factors are:

  • The number of doors, drawer fronts and visible panels.
  • The door style: flat doors are quicker to prepare than framed or grooved ones.
  • The condition of the existing finish and the repairs needed.
  • The number of colours and the sheen.
  • New handles or hinges.

Kitchen cabinet painting FAQs

Some laminate doors can be painted with the right primer. Foil-wrapped doors that are peeling are better replaced. We check each door before quoting.

Usually, yes, with some disruption while doors are off. We agree the schedule with you before we start.

Usually only the visible faces are painted. If you want the interiors done too, tell us and we will include it in the price.

It depends on preparation, the paint system and how the kitchen is used. Cleaning with mild products and avoiding abrasive pads helps the finish last.

Worktop changes are part of a kitchen makeover rather than a painting job. Ask us and we will advise.

Painting suits solid doors in good shape. If doors are damaged or you want a different style, replacement doors are better.
