Custom Made Benches in Dubai

We make custom made benches in Dubai to the length of your wall, in our own workshop in Ras Al Khor. Since 1985 the family has built joinery here, and our own carpenters fit every piece we sell.

Custom made benches we build to measure

Because a standard bench is sold in fixed lengths, it rarely fits the wall you have. A bench that stops short leaves a gap for clutter, and one that runs long will not sit flush. So we build custom made benches to the length we measure, and we plan the supports so the top stays flat across the span.

  • Dining benches — paired with a table, set to the height you actually eat at
  • Outdoor benches — finished for sun and rain, with joints that drain
  • Storage benches — a lift-up lid or drawers under the seat
  • Hallway and entry benches — sized to the space beside the door
  • Window benches — shaped to suit a bay or a recess
  • Upholstered benches — a padded seat in fabric or leather
  • Commercial benches — long runs for a lobby, a waiting area or a majlis

If you already know the length you want, send it and we will quote. If you do not, we will come and measure. For the rooms around the bench, our custom furniture and dining tables pages cover the rest.

Woods and finishes for custom made benches

We keep solid timber and board in the workshop, so you can hold a sample against your floor before anything is cut. These are the woods we hold most often.

  • Teak — hard and oily, so it shrugs off humidity; the traditional choice for a bench seat here
  • Meranti — stable and easy to work, and a sensible compromise when the budget is tight
  • White wood — the softest and cheapest of the group, so we use it where a bench takes light use
  • Ash — a light, open grain with plenty of movement in it
  • Beech — dense and uniform, which suits a seat that carries a lot of load
  • Walnut — dark and figured, and the most expensive of the group
  • Engineered wood (MDF) — flat and stable, and the right base for a sprayed gloss finish

However, the wood matters less than where the bench sits. Because a bench outdoors faces direct sun and rain, we build it from a timber that handles both. Indoors, the same budget buys a better finish rather than a harder timber. A hallway bench also takes knocks from shoes and bags, so a sprayed or laminate surface survives there better than an oiled one.

Outdoor benches for a Dubai summer

An outdoor bench lives a hard life here. Between May and September the surface bakes, and for the rest of the year it takes humidity and the occasional downpour. So we choose the timber for that, and we detail the bench so water runs off instead of sitting in a joint.

Two details decide whether an outdoor bench still looks right after three summers. First, the top needs a slight fall or a gap between slats, because a flat surface holds a puddle. Second, the feet need to sit clear of the ground, so the end grain never stays wet. Preservative treatment helps, but the shape of the bench matters more.

We also finish outdoor benches so you can refresh them yourself. An oiled surface takes a new coat in an afternoon, whereas a failed lacquer has to be stripped first. You can see the wider range on our outdoor furniture page.

Custom made benches with storage

Because floor space is the thing most Dubai homes run short of, a bench that stores something earns its place twice. So we plan the inside around what will actually go in it, rather than adding a lid and hoping for the best.

A shoe bench is the common request, and it works when the shelves sit at the height of the tallest boot in the house. For a window bench, the lid or the drawers must clear the curtains, so we check the swing before we settle the seat height. In a hallway, the same bench can take coats as well, if the depth allows it. You can see the matching pieces on our shoe cabinets and fitted wardrobes pages.

Upholstered and wall-mounted benches

An upholstered bench is mostly a seating question, because the frame only has to hold the foam still. So we settle the seat height and the depth first, and then choose the fabric with you.

A wall-mounted bench suits a narrow hallway, since it leaves the floor clear for cleaning. The seat fixes to the wall on a batten, and any back pad hangs above it. Because nothing stands on the floor, the bench reads as part of the room rather than as an object in it.

For a hallway that needs to store as well as seat, an oak bench with a cushion and an attached side unit does both jobs in one footprint.

How we make a custom bench

  1. First, we visit and measure the wall, the floor and anything that restricts the bench, such as a door swing or a radiator.
  2. Then you receive a drawing and a fixed price, so nothing is cut until you have approved both.
  3. After that, we build the bench in the workshop, and you are welcome to see it before it goes in.
  4. Finally, the same carpenters fit it in your home and take the packaging away.

Most benches then take three to five weeks from an approved drawing. A plain bench with no storage is quicker, while an upholstered piece or a long span with extra supports adds time. Because the finish decides much of the schedule, a sprayed gloss takes longer to cure than an oiled surface.

We also repair and restore benches after water damage or a move. If the frame is still sound, we remake the affected parts instead of building the whole bench again.

Questions about custom made benches in Dubai

It depends on the length, the timber and whether the bench stores anything. Because we price each bench on its own rather than from a catalogue, you get a fixed figure after the measuring visit, and that number does not move once you have agreed it.

For outdoors, teak or a treated hardwood; for a dining bench, ash or beech; for a painted hallway bench, meranti or MDF under a sprayed finish. We bring samples to the measuring visit so you can compare them in your own light.

Yes, if the timber and the finish suit the exposure. We gap or slope the top so water drains, keep the feet clear of the ground, and use a finish you can refresh yourself. A bench in full sun needs a new coat roughly once a year.

That is the main reason to have one made instead of bought. Because we measure on site, we can work around a column, a recess, a bay window or a skirting return that a standard bench cannot sit against.

Installation, delivery and storage

Yes. We build lift-up lids, drawers and open shoe shelves, and we plan the inside around what you will put in it. For a window bench, we check that the lid clears the curtains before we fix the seat height.

Most benches take three to five weeks from an approved drawing. A plain bench is quicker, and an upholstered one takes a little longer because the fabric has to be ordered in.

Yes. Our own carpenters deliver and fit the bench, and they take the packaging away. Because the team that builds the piece is the team that installs it, there is one point of contact if anything needs adjusting.

Tell us about the bench you need

Send a photograph of the wall and the length you have in mind. Then we will tell you what fits, what it costs and how long it takes. You can also see finished joinery on our projects page.
