A standard unit therefore leaves an unused strip beside a wall, blocks a socket or stops short of the ceiling. We design and build every piece in our own workshop in Ras Al Khor, and our own carpenters install it. Since 1985 the family has made joinery here. That means the person who measures your room can walk over and check the work on the bench.

Furniture made for your room differs from a standard unit that someone alters after purchase. A filler panel can close a gap, but it cannot solve a blocked socket, a skirting return or a door that collides with a bulkhead. Made-to-measure does not mean every surface needs an expensive finish. For example, a hard-working internal shelf needs durability rather than decorative veneer, while a visible door may justify book-matched grain. In addition, the carcass behind that door can use a stable board chosen for the job. So the specification should spend money where it changes the appearance, performance or daily use of the piece.
Materials and finishes for custom furniture
Material names can confuse, because a sample usually shows only the surface. So ask what sits underneath, how we finish the edge, and where the material will be used. Those details decide how the piece responds to moisture, impact and repeated opening.
- Veneer uses a real timber surface and can be book-matched so the grain continues across adjacent doors.
- High-pressure laminate provides a hard-wearing surface in a wide range of colours and textures.
- Solid timber suits tables, benches, exposed frames and details where the material itself is part of the design.
- Moisture-resistant and marine-grade board is used where bathrooms, kitchens or utility rooms expose joinery to damp conditions.
- Sprayed and lacquered finishes can be matt, satin or high gloss and need careful preparation between coats.
- Edges may use matching edge banding or solid lipping, depending on how visible and exposed they are.
Where possible, view a finish sample in the room’s actual light. Warm artificial light, direct sun and surrounding stone all change how a colour or grain appears. If the finish must coordinate closely with an existing interior, send us a sample or a photograph, and we will explain the limits of matching aged timber.
Designing for daily use
We plan storage around real objects rather than a general request for more shelves. A wardrobe needs rail heights that suit the clothing you hang. Similarly, a media unit needs cable access, equipment ventilation and a route for future changes. A window seat needs a comfortable finished height, and its lids or drawers must open without hitting the curtains.
Hardware also changes how the furniture feels. Drawer runners, hinges, sliding systems and pull-outs must match the load and how often you use them. Lighting needs accessible drivers and a clear maintenance route. Because we list these items in the written specification, you can compare one quotation against another on the same scope.

- Manufacture. The furniture is made in our Ras Al Khor workshop.
- Installation. The team fits the piece, checks its operation and leaves the work area clean.
Review the drawing as a practical document, not only as a picture. Check clear openings, shelf spacing, door directions and anything that must fit inside. Changes are easiest before materials are ordered. If another designer or architect has prepared the drawing, we can work from it and raise details that may be difficult to manufacture or install.
