Wardrobe Renovation
Keep the built-in wardrobe you have, and change what does not work: the doors, the finish, the interior or all three.
Renovate rather than replace
Many built-in wardrobes are structurally fine but look dated or are badly organised inside. A wardrobe renovation keeps the carcass, which saves the cost and disruption of removing it, and replaces or improves the parts you see and use.
At the site visit we check whether the carcass is square, dry and solid enough to take new doors and fittings. If it is, renovation is usually the sensible spend. If it is swollen, broken or the wrong size for what you need, we will tell you that a new fitted wardrobe is the better option.
For broken hinges, runners or sliding doors only, see wardrobe repair.
Ways to renovate a wardrobe
Most wardrobe renovation projects combine two or three of these.

New doors
Replace the doors with new ones made to the existing openings, in painted MDF, veneer, laminate or mirror. This changes the look of the room the most.

Refinish the existing doors
If the doors are solid and in good condition, we can sand, prime and repaint or re-lacquer them, and change the handles.

Rework the interior
Add drawers, double hanging, shoe shelves, pull-down rails or lighting, and remove shelves that waste space.
Images in this section are design illustrations to show the options, not photographs of completed projects.
Common upgrades
Hinged to sliding
Where the carcass depth allows, hinged doors can be replaced with sliding doors to free up space in front of the wardrobe.
Soft-close hardware
New soft-close hinges and drawer runners make an older wardrobe feel quieter and smoother.
Extend to the ceiling
Add a top box or infill panels so the wardrobe reaches the ceiling and the dust shelf disappears.
Lighting
LED lighting inside hanging sections and shelves, planned so the cables stay hidden.
Materials and finishes
New parts are chosen to work with the carcass you are keeping.
- Painted MDF doors. The most flexible option for a new colour, from matt to satin.
- Veneer doors. Real timber faces when you want a warmer, natural finish.
- Laminate doors. Hard-wearing and cost-effective, with plain and wood-grain options.
- Repainting. Spray or brush-applied paint over properly prepared existing doors, as described on our furniture repainting page.
- Interior fittings. Melamine shelves and drawer boxes, soft-close runners, hanging rails and organisers.
Refinishing work from our workshop
A real refinishing job: a timber cabinet before and after we repainted it. The same preparation applies to wardrobe doors.
Before: natural timber cabinet

After: repainted in white

How a wardrobe renovation works
- Send photographs. Show us the wardrobe closed and open, and tell us what bothers you about it.
- Inspect and measure. We check the carcass, the doors and the hardware, and measure every opening. The visit is free within Dubai.
- Proposal and fixed price. You receive a written, fixed price, and a drawing where the interior or doors change.
- Workshop work. New doors and fittings are made in our workshop. Doors being refinished are prepared and painted in the workshop or on site, depending on the job.
- Fit and finish. We fit, align and adjust everything on site and clean up afterwards.
What affects the price
Wardrobe renovation is priced on what changes, not on a whole new wardrobe. The main factors are:
- The number and size of doors being replaced or refinished.
- The door finish you choose.
- How much of the interior is being rebuilt or added.
- Hardware: hinges, runners, tracks and handles.
- The condition of the carcass and any repairs it needs first.
Our fitted wardrobe cost guide helps you compare renovation against replacement.
What to send for a quote

- A close-up of the hinges, runners or track if they are a problem.
- The overall width and height.
- The finish you would like, or a photo of the room it needs to match.

Wardrobe renovation FAQs
Is renovating cheaper than a new wardrobe?
Usually, when the carcass is sound, because you are not paying for a new structure or its removal. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
Can you match the new doors to my bedroom furniture?
Yes. Send a daylight photograph of the furniture, or let us see it at the visit, and we will match the colour or the timber tone as closely as the material allows.
Can I change from hinged to sliding doors?
Often, if the carcass is deep enough for the track. We check this at the visit.
Do you renovate wardrobes in rented apartments?
Yes, with the landlord’s agreement. Many landlords prefer a renovation to a full replacement.
How long does it take?
It depends on whether new doors are being made. We give you the timing with the fixed price.
What happens to the old doors?
Removal of the parts we replace is agreed in the quotation, so you know in advance what is included.
