Custom Study Tables in Dubai

We make custom study tables in Dubai to the measurements of the room, in our own workshop in Ras Al Khor. Since 1985 the family has built joinery here, and our own carpenters fit every piece we sell.

Custom study tables we build to measure

Because a bought study table comes in set widths, it usually leaves a gap beside the wall or blocks the window. So we build to the measurement instead, and we plan the shelves at the same time as the top. That way the lamp, the books and the printer all have a place before the desk arrives.

  • Fitted study desks — built into an alcove, recess or run of wall
  • Freestanding study tables — if the desk may move room later
  • Corner study tables — for a bedroom that is short of straight wall
  • Study desks for two — one top, two places to work
  • Desks with shelving — books and files within reach of the seat
  • Desks with drawers — planned around what is actually kept in them
  • Children’s study tables — set to a height that can grow with them
  • Study tables with a window bench — storage under the seat

If you already know the width you want, send it and we will quote. If you do not, we will come and measure. For the rooms around the desk, our beds and custom furniture pages cover the rest.

Custom study tables for alcoves and recesses

A fitted study desk earns its place in a small room, because it uses a recess that would otherwise hold nothing. However, the fit is the whole point, so we measure the opening at three heights. Walls lean, and a desk cut square to a wall that does not will show a gap at one end.

Above the desk we usually continue the same board as shelving, so the whole run reads as one piece rather than a desk with a bookcase dropped on it. Where the window is deep, the top can run into the reveal and pick up daylight.

If the recess is too shallow for a chair, a bench seat beside the desk keeps the storage without the depth.

Custom study tables with shelving

Because a study desk is used sitting down, everything on it should be reachable without standing up. So we set the shelves at the height of the books that will go on them, and we keep the deepest shelf nearest the seat.

For a narrow room, a wall-mounted desk keeps the floor clear and makes the room feel wider. Because the frame fixes to the wall on a batten, the top can run the full length without a leg in the way.

You can see the same approach on our dressing tables and fitted wardrobes pages.

Custom study tables for two, and for shared rooms

Two children sharing a room need two places to work, and that is usually a question of span rather than of floor area. So we set the length first, then the supports, so nobody ends up sitting behind a leg.

Where the room is dark, we continue the desk into a lit alcove so the working end gets its own light. Because glare off a screen is worse than dim light, we also check which way the window faces before we place the seat.

Custom study tables in a bedroom

A study table in a bedroom has to survive the room around it, because the bed decides how much wall is left. So we plan the desk and the bed together, rather than fitting one and then looking for space for the other.

Where the bed sits against the same wall, a shallow desk with a shelf over the window keeps the work surface clear without crowding the room. Because the top is shallow, the chair tucks away when the desk is not in use.

Because a study desk is used sitting down for a long stretch, the height of the top and its depth matter more than the finish does. desk heights and depths is a reasonable starting point, and we check the numbers against your own chair at the measuring visit.

For the rest of the bedroom, see our beds page. If the work is mostly on a screen, our computer tables page covers the deeper version of the same piece.

How we make custom study tables

  1. First, we visit and measure the wall, the window and the floor, and we agree which way the seat should face.
  2. Then you receive a drawing and a fixed price, so nothing is cut until you have approved both.
  3. After that, we build the desk in the workshop, and you are welcome to see it before it goes in.
  4. Finally, the same carpenters fit it, and we make good around any batten or fixing.

Most study tables then take three to five weeks from an approved drawing. A plain top on two supports is quicker, while a fitted run with shelves and drawers adds time. Because the finish decides much of the schedule, a sprayed gloss takes longer to cure than an oiled surface.

We also repair and restore desks after water damage or a move.

Questions about custom study tables in Dubai

It depends on the width, the material and how much shelving or storage the desk carries. Because we price each table on its own rather than from a catalogue, you get a fixed figure after the measuring visit, and that number does not move once you have agreed it.

For an adult, a common working height is around 75cm, but the right figure depends on the chair. However, for a child the height matters more, because a desk that is too high lifts the shoulders. We measure against the chair and the person, not against a standard.

Yes, and it is one of the most common requests. We set the height for the child now and keep the frame simple, so the top can be raised later without rebuilding the shelves. Because the desk will be leaned on, we also fix the frame to the wall.

That is the main reason to have one made. Because we measure the opening at several heights, we can scribe the ends to a wall that leans. A bought desk would show a gap at one end.

Materials, delivery and timing

For a painted desk, MDF under a sprayed finish gives the flattest surface. For a visible grain, veneer or solid timber works well, and oak and ash both take a hard-wearing finish. Because a desk is written on, we also specify an edge that will not chip.

Most study tables take three to five weeks from an approved drawing. A plain desk is quicker, and a fitted run with shelves and drawers takes a little longer.

Yes. Our own carpenters deliver and fit the desk, and they take the packaging away. Because the team that builds the piece is the team that installs it, there is one point of contact if anything needs adjusting.
