Wooden Furniture Repair and Restoration
Loose chairs, wobbly tables, lifted veneer and worn finishes, repaired by joiners who also make furniture.
Repair the piece you want to keep
In most cases, we can repair good wooden furniture. A chair that rocks, a table leg that has split, a drawer that no longer slides or a veneer that has lifted are common problems, and none of them means the piece has to be thrown away.
Wooden furniture repair deals with the structure and the surface. If the piece is sound and you only want a new colour, furniture repainting is the better starting point. For fitted wardrobes, see wardrobe repair.
What we repair
Most wooden furniture repair falls into three groups.

Joints and structure
Loose chair and table joints, split legs, broken stretchers and drawer boxes that have come apart. We clean out and re-glue the joints, and then repair or remake broken parts.

Surface and veneer
Lifted or chipped veneer, deep scratches, dents, water marks and heat marks. We repair the damage and blend the finish into the surrounding area.

Full restoration
Stripping and refinishing a whole piece, together with the structural repairs it needs, so it is sound and looks consistent.
Images in this section are design illustrations to show the options, not photographs of completed projects.
Typical pieces
Chairs and dining tables
The most common repairs, because chairs carry load at every joint and tables are moved often.
Sideboards and cabinets
Doors that drop, drawers that stick, and tops marked by heat or water.
Beds
Creaking frames, loose rails and broken slats. See also custom beds if a replacement makes more sense.
Heirloom pieces
We repair older furniture with care, so it keeps its character rather than looking new.
Methods and finishes
The repair method depends on how the piece was made and how it is finished.
- Re-gluing joints. First, we clean out the old glue so the new joint holds.
- Timber repairs. We repair broken sections with matching timber where possible.
- Veneer repairs. We re-lay lifted veneer and patch missing pieces with a close match.
- Finishing. Lacquer, paint or oil finishes, matched to the original or chosen new.
- Hardware. Replacement hinges, runners, handles and castors.
For a new colour rather than a repair, see furniture repainting.

How furniture repair works
- Send photographs. Show the whole piece and close-ups of the damage.
- Assessment. We tell you what can be repaired and whether the work is done on site or in the workshop.
- Fixed price. You receive a written, fixed price before work starts.
- Repair. Structural repairs come first, then the finish.
- Return. Once we finish a workshop repair, we deliver the piece back to you.
What affects the price
The price depends on the piece and the damage. The main factors are:
- The type and size of the piece.
- Whether the work is structural, cosmetic or both.
- Whether the finish needs blending or a full refinish.
- Replacement parts or hardware.
- Collection and delivery for workshop repairs.
What to send for a quote

Furniture repair FAQs
Can a wobbly chair be fixed properly?
Usually, yes. We take the joints apart, clean them and re-glue them, which lasts much longer than adding screws or brackets.
Can you fix water or heat marks on a table?
We can repair many marks. Deep damage may need the top to be refinished. Send close-up photographs and we will tell you.
Do you repair furniture you did not make?
Yes. Most of our repair work is on furniture made elsewhere.
Can you repair veneered furniture?
Yes. Lifted veneer can be re-laid, and small missing areas can be patched with a close match.
Is the repair done in my home?
Small repairs can be done on site. Larger repairs and refinishing are done in the workshop.
Can you change the colour at the same time?
Yes. See furniture repainting for the finishing options.
