Custom Console Tables

A narrow table made to the exact width and depth of an entrance hall, a wall behind the sofa or the space under a TV.

Made for narrow spaces

Console tables live in tight spots: an entrance hall, a corridor, behind a sofa or under a mirror. A few centimetres decide whether they fit, which is why custom console tables are made to the measured space rather than a standard depth.

In an entrance hall, the console is often the first piece of furniture visitors see, so it usually sets the style for the rest of the home. It also has a practical job: a place for keys, post and a bag as you come in. We plan the drawer and shelf sizes around those everyday items rather than leaving them as an afterthought.

They can be freestanding or wall-mounted, open or with drawers. For a deeper sideboard with more storage, see display cabinets. For an entrance with shoe storage, see shoe cabinets.

Console table types

Custom console tables usually take one of these forms.

Custom oak entryway bench and storage

Entrance console

A narrow table by the door for keys, post and a mirror, with a drawer if you need one.

Custom woodwork: a warm oak slatted feature wall with a fitted floating console and concealed lighting

Floating console

Wall-mounted with no legs, which keeps the floor clear and suits small halls.

Custom furniture in Dubai: a floating walnut TV console with fitted shelving and concealed cable space

Behind-sofa or TV console

A longer, slim table behind a sofa or under a wall-mounted TV.

Images in this section are design illustrations to show the options, not photographs of completed projects.

Details to decide

Depth

The narrowest useful depth for the space, so it does not block the walkway.

Drawers

One or two shallow drawers for keys and small items.

Lower shelf

A shelf near the floor for baskets or books.

Matching mirror

Tell us if you want a mirror or wall panel above, so the two are planned together.

Materials and finishes

Console tables are seen as soon as you walk in, so the finish usually leads the choice.

  • Solid timber. For legs, frames and tops with a natural edge.
  • Wood veneer. A consistent timber look on longer tops.
  • Painted or lacquered MDF. Clean colours that match walls or doors.
  • Stone tops. Ask us if you want a stone top and we will discuss the options.
