Electrical Works in Dubai
Electrical works in a renovation are mostly about position. A socket behind a new wardrobe is useless, while a downlight that misses the worktop leaves you cooking in shadow. So we place the lighting and power on the same drawings as the joinery. Then our electrical subcontractor installs and tests it under our contract.

- Lighting Downlights, pendants, LED strips and switching.
- Power Sockets, appliance points and USB outlets.
- Circuits New circuits for kitchens and heavy appliances.
- Tested Circuits labelled and tested before handover.

Safety first
Electrical works are a job for qualified electricians
Electrical work is not a DIY task, and it is not a carpentry task either. On our renovations, an experienced electrical subcontractor carries out the electrical works and answers to us. In addition, larger changes to supply or load can need approval from DEWA or your building management.
Our role, therefore, is to plan where everything goes and to sequence the work. That means:
- marking sockets and switches on the joinery drawings
- planning cable routes before walls and ceilings close
- coordinating appliance points with the kitchen layout
- making sure lighting suits each room’s use
As a result, the electrician arrives with a clear plan rather than guessing on site.
Scope
What our electrical works cover in a renovation
Lighting layouts
Downlights, pendants and wall lights, laid out for the room rather than on a grid. We also plan dimming where it helps.
Joinery lighting
LED strips under kitchen cabinets, inside wardrobes and along shelves. For that reason, we plan the cables before the joinery is made.
Sockets and switches
Extra sockets go where furniture really sits, while switches sit at the right height beside doors.
Kitchen circuits
Hobs, ovens and other heavy appliances often need their own circuit, especially in a larger kitchen. Our kitchen renovation page explains how we plan them.
Media and home office
TV walls, routers and desks also need power and data in tidy positions. See home office renovation for an example.
Testing and labelling
Finally, the electrician tests every circuit and labels the distribution board before handover.
Planning with the joinery
Why electrical works and joinery belong together
Fitted furniture hides walls. So, once a wardrobe or media wall is in place, moving a socket behind it means taking the joinery apart. Therefore, we confirm every point before the cabinets are built.
The same applies to lighting. Concealed LED strips need a driver, a cable route and a switch. When we draw these together, the light appears where you want it and the hardware stays out of sight.

Process
How electrical works fit into a renovation
- Survey We note the existing board, circuits and any visible problems.
- Layout After that, we mark sockets, switches and lights on the drawings.
- First fix The electrician runs cables while walls and ceilings are open.
- Joinery and finishes Then gypsum, paint and joinery go in around the boxes.
- Second fix Once the finishes are complete, the electrician connects sockets, switches and fittings.
- Testing Finally, circuits are tested and labelled before handover.
Building work in Dubai follows the Dubai Building Code, alongside any rules your building or community sets.
Budget
What affects the cost of electrical works
We price electrical works from the drawings and the survey, rather than by a standard rate. The main factors are:
- the number of new light points, sockets and switches
- any new circuits, especially for appliances
- the condition of the existing wiring and board
- concealed lighting in joinery
- access through finished walls and ceilings
Timing makes a big difference. For example, running cables while ceilings are open is far quicker than chasing into finished walls later.
If you want an estimate, send photos of the board and the rooms involved, plus a sketch of what you want to add.
Questions
Electrical works FAQs
Do you carry out electrical work yourselves?
Our experienced electrical subcontractor carries out the work, under our contract and on our programme. Meanwhile, we plan the layout with you and coordinate it with the other trades.
Can you add sockets without damaging the walls?
Some damage is unavoidable when cables go into finished walls. We therefore patch and repaint the area afterwards.
Do I need DEWA approval?
Small changes inside a home usually do not. However, increases in load or supply changes can, so we check this during the survey.
Can you only do electrical works?
We usually provide electrical works as part of a wider renovation, since that is where the planning matters most.
