Tiling Works in Dubai

Good tiling works start long before the first tile goes down. The base has to be flat, wet areas need waterproofing, and the layout has to suit the cabinets and fixtures. So we plan the tiling with the joinery. A tiling subcontractor we have worked with for years then lays it under our contract.

Tiling

Where we tile

Tiling works in a renovation

Most tiling works we handle are part of a larger renovation. For example, a kitchen needs a new splashback, while a bathroom needs walls and floors. Because the tiles meet the cabinets, vanities and worktops, the order of work matters.

We commonly tile:

  • kitchen splashbacks and floors
  • bathroom walls, floors and shower areas
  • laundry and utility rooms
  • living areas, hallways and entrances
  • office tea points, washrooms and receptions

For full room projects, see kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation.

Preparation

How we prepare for tiling works

Check the base

A floor that is out of level shows every joint. So we check the screed or old tiles first.

Remove or overlay

Old tiles sometimes stay as a base. However, loose or hollow tiles must come out first. Our demolition works team handles removal.

Waterproof wet areas

Showers and bathroom floors get a waterproofing layer before tiling, then a check before the tiles go on.

Set out the layout

We start from the most visible line, such as a doorway or a worktop, so cut tiles land where you notice them least.

Coordinate fixtures

Wastes, taps and sockets are positioned before tiling, so the cuts are planned rather than improvised.

Grout and seal

The right grout and a sealed edge at every joint with the joinery keep water out.

Choosing tiles

Tile size, finish and layout

Large-format porcelain makes a room look calmer, because it has fewer joints. However, it needs a very flat base and careful handling. Smaller tiles, on the other hand, follow a sloped shower floor more easily.

Finish matters too. Polished tiles look striking, but they show marks and can be slippery when wet. Therefore, we suggest matt or textured tiles for bathroom floors.

Before you buy tiles, send us the size and the room. We will check the layout and the quantity, including spares for cuts and future repairs.

Tiles meet joinery at almost every edge. For example, a kitchen splashback sits on the worktop, while a vanity sits against the wall tiles. So we fit the joinery and tiling in an order that gives clean, sealed joints.

Budget

What affects the cost of tiling works

We price tiling works from the measured area and the condition of the base. The main factors are:

  • the area of walls and floors
  • tile size, since large formats take longer to lay
  • removal of old tiles and levelling
  • waterproofing in wet areas
  • patterns, borders and niches

Tiles themselves vary widely in price, so we quote the labour and materials as separate lines. As a result, you can compare options easily.

Before we visit, send photos of the room, rough sizes and the tiles you like.
